Loreburn Competition Cups


Adamson Cup


The Adamson Memorial up was presented to The Loreburn Bridge Club in 2009 by Eva Adamson in memory of her husband Duncan Adamson who was a member from 1980 -2007.
The Adamson Cup is an individual handicap competition which is played on Wednesday evenings through the year and is scored on an aggregate system where each of the two pairs of winners each add 100 points to their handicap.

Appleton Cup


Mr. Harry Appleton presented this Cup in 1958 as a Handicap Cup. He hoped to give some of those who might not win a chance. The Appleton Cup is a Pairs competition which is played on Friday evenings from Sept -April and is scored as a match pointed competition.

Cissie Hanley Salver - Scratch


The Cissie Hanley Salver - Scratch was presented to The Loreburn Bridge Club in 2005 by Margaret Greensill in memory of Cissie Hanley. The Cissie Hanley Salver - Scratchis a Pairs competition which is played on Friday evenings from Sept -April and is scored as a match pointed competition.


Cissie Hanley Salver - Handicap


The Cissie Hanley Salver -Handicap was presented to The Loreburn Bridge Club in 2005 by Beth Marshall & Eileen Cowan in memory of their mother Cissie Hanley. The Cissie Hanley Salver is a Pairs competition which is played on Friday evenings from Sept -April and is scored as a handicaped match pointed competition.




Hutcheon Cup

The Hutcheon Cup was presented to Loreburn Bridge Club in memory of Dr Edward Hutcheon and was first played for in the winter of 1952/53. Since 1955 it has been played for on monday evenings during the summme rand is now a played as a matchpointed Pairs competition.

Loreburn Cup

The Loreburn cup was originally played in 1952 as a Gent's Pairs competition. For some years now it is a Team of Four competition and is played as a one evening event during the winter months.

Mary Birss Cup

The Mary Birss Cup was presented to Loreburn Bridge Club in 1997. The Mary Birss Novice Competition is a scratch matchpointed competition which is played for on Friday evenings and runs simultaneously with the Appleton Cup & Cissie Hanley Salver. However, only those players who have less than 8 years experience of playing Bridge are eligible to win it.

Maxwellton West Salver

The Maxwellton West Salver was presented to Loreburn Bridge Club in 2006 by Ann Gray. It is played as an aggregate pairs competition on a day in Febuary.

 


McGowan Cup

The McGowan Cup was presented to Loreburn Bridge Club in 1949 by ???? It is a Ladies Pairs competition and is played for on a Saturday in January as a matchpointed competition with a minimum of 38 boards.

Pairs Competition Cup

The Pairs Cup was presented to Loreburn Bridge Club by R. T. Parsons and was first played for in 1951.It is now played for on Monday evenings as a handicapped matchpointed competition and runs in January for 15 weeks.

Stewart Trophy

The stewart Trophy is Loreburn Bridge Club's oldest Trophy. It was presented to the club in 1937 by J Dykes and called the Stewart Trophy as this was his wife's maiden name. It is played for on monday evenings as a matchpointed competition and runs in September for 15 weeks.
